9 Types of Verbs

Answer: Action, Stative, Transitive, Intransitive, Auxiliary, Modal, Phrasal, Regular, and Irregular.

Action Verbs – Verbs that express physical or mental actions.

Stative Verbs – Verbs which describe a state of being.

Transitive Verbs – Verbs which require an object to make sense.

Intransitive Verbs – Verbs which do not need direct objects to complete their meaning.

Auxiliary Verbs – Verbs used in forming the tenses, moods, and voices of other verbs. The primary auxiliary verbs are be, do, and have.

Modal Verbs – A type of auxiliary verb used to express necessity or possibility.

Phrasal Verbs – Verbs made up of several words used together, usually a verb combined with an adverb or preposition. Regular Verbs – Verbs that follow standard patterns of inflection.

Irregular Verbs – Verbs which do not follow standard patterns of inflection.
